Why No One Is Reading Your Blog

You started your blog, you’re faithful to your posting schedule, your copy is free of grammatical errors, your content is strong and no one is reading your blog. Waaaaaaaaaaah. Don’t cry. Look at what you can do to ensure your blog is getting the eyeballs it deserves.

Are you promoting it effectively?

Take the time to promote your blog by sharing your posts on social media. Remember to use a powerful pull quote or a “gripping, but relevant title” to engage readers. Use sites like BizSugar to share your tips and tricks and see how your content fares against other writing. The important thing is to keep sharing your URL in an appropriate and resourceful way, seeking out new opportunities without fail.

Are you connecting with readers?

While comment sections can be dreary places, you can spice them up with witty and articulate contributions. Look around to see who else is creating content in a similar vein and engage them in dialogue. When you create a compelling discussion, you attract an active audience and the exchange can extend to your blog. Make sure you link back your URL, so your audience can find you.

Is your site appealing?

Look at your website on a variety of devices. More people than ever are visiting via mobile devices, so keeping up to date with these innovations is par for the course. There are great websites out there for emulating mobile browsers. Test your website every time you update your code. Remember to get feedback from users or hire a geek to look at your site and tell you what works well and what might dissuade them from returning.

Have you looked critically at your writing?

So you’ve done all of the above, but you still are not getting traction commensurate with your efforts. You may have to evaluate your writing on a more critical level. Can you see a difference in your writing from a few years ago? If you can, that’s great, but hiring a writing coach may be the push you need to raise your writing bar. No one starts out great, but if you put in the effort to improve your content, you will create measurable results as well as improve your ability to distinguish yourself through your writing.

Are you ready to give up?

Don’t. Your blog is your gift to yourself. Plugging away at something without getting accolades demonstrates determination. In the meantime, you are creating a living document and resource. Keep going no matter what. Be patient as the depth and breadth of your blog is a testament to your contribution. The link that will bring your audience may be just around the corner.
