What Kind of Entrepreneur Energy Are You Bringing?

You might not put much thought into the energy you bring to your business, but it’s worth reflecting on. Your entrepreneur energy—how you feel about your business and your customers, and how you express that energy into the world—has a direct impact on the success of your business.

That energy attracts and repels things in your company. You’ve heard the saying, like attracts like. If you’re feeling negative, you’ll draw more bad stuff. You’ll soon wonder why this avalanche of bad luck is falling on you, but without an energy adjustment, you’ll continue your streak. On the other hand, if you can find a positive attitude, you’ll attract great customers and plenty of opportunity.

The choice is yours.

Let’s look at exactly what your entrepreneur energy is communicating.

How Do You Feel About Your Business?

When you wake up on Monday morning, are you excited about the day ahead, or do you groan, bury your head, and hit snooze on the alarm?

It’s natural for your feelings about your business to rise and fall. You will have periods where you’re ecstatic about it (particularly at the start), but you’ll also have periods where you’re frustrated, stressed, or lack motivation. It’s important to key into those feelings in the moment rather than assuming the way you felt yesterday is the same you’ll feel today.

What’s Your Attitude Toward Your Customers?

Maybe you love them all. Maybe you have a few who drive you crazy with their demands. How you feel about them directly impacts your entrepreneur energy, and that, in turn, affects the way your customers feel around you.

If you’re annoyed after dealing with a difficult customer, the next one who walks through your door may slam into that wall of negativity you’re letting off. She might leave without buying anything just because of your energy. So it’s important, again, to identify your feelings and then let go of frustrations so you can give 100% to the next customer.

How Do You Deal with Stress?

Another component of your entrepreneur energy is how well you deal with the inevitable stress that will occur in your business. You can’t avoid it, but you can learn techniques that will help you move forward productively.

  • Deep breathing
  • Meditation
  • Writing lists
  • Talking through a problem
  • Stepping away from your business
  • Going on vacation
  • Taking a walk

Turning Your Entrepreneur Energy Around

If, after reading this, you realize you’ve been holding some negative entrepreneur energy in your business for a while, it may be time for a break. And yet most of us don’t take them: only 57% of entrepreneurs take vacations. Imagine the burnout and failure that could be avoided if more took them!

Even if you can’t take off a month to sail the blue seas, make a concerted effort to have time away from work. Maybe you need to hire someone to alleviate the stress you’re dealing with, or just take a four-day weekend so you can rejuvenate and reset your energy.

Running a business should bring you joy. But realize, it may not do that all the time. If you continually assess your entrepreneur energy to know where you are, you’ll be able to consciously reset any negativity you’re feeling so it doesn’t hurt your business.
